Love, Marriage, and a Babymoon

Our first trip to Hawaii

To celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary and the impending arrival of our baby, we knew we wanted to take a trip. We wanted sun and beach, but knew we wanted to avoid the Zika virus and stay domestic. Given that list, Hawaii was our best option - gives all the international destination vibes with all the convenience of not leaving the US. Hindsight being 20/20, we should have taken the flight in two parts, first flight from DC to CA , stayed the night, then taken the rest of the way to Hawaii. Thankfully, compression socks and much walking throughout the flight helped keep the swelling down.

Paia Inn

Our primary goal during the trip was heavy rest and relaxation. We had no desire to do anything but sleep late, eat well and catch as much sun as possible. Thanks to the mama travel bloggers of the world, Paia Inn was put on our radar as a top Hawaii babymoon option. Paia is a small beach town in the northern part of Maui. It’s close to the Kahului airport, features a few great restaurants, beautiful quiet beaches, and sea turtles that beach themselves in the evening hours. Because of the time change, our bodies naturally woke up around 5AM on the first couple of days, which allowed us to catch some beautiful sunrises on the beach - tea in hand.

Good Eats

We tried pretty much all the local restaurants next to the Paia Inn, and their casual dining did not disappoint. Paia Fish Market had some of the best fish sandwiches I’ve had in a while and their rough chopped coleslaw was definitely my fav.

For our beach days, we opted for picnic style. We stopped by the grocery and picked up fruit, chips and salsa, ginger beers and water. We set up shop on our beach towels under whatever trees we could find, and spent the day going in and out of water until afternoon nap time.
